Mawwiage

This isn't going to be a profound discussion on marriage.

I once asked my mother if she was bothered that I hadn't found a girl and settled down. She's in her early 70's at this point, me being the youngest. She has a bunch of grandkids from the oldest 3, and the youngest three are all unmarried, without kids. (I can set you up with my sister or brother, if you live in the SF area...er...both are hetro, I think.) Strange how I'm second-guessing on that. Extremely likely, but hey.

Getting back to Mom. She's arrived at the conclusion that the youngest ones probably wouldn't get married. You see, she and our departed dad hooked up in or around the end of high school. They didn't have a lot of life experiences, so they grew up together. All of the experiences that one had, the other had, leading to similar ideas on everything. So, if all goes according to her thinking, I'll be alone - which bothers her, but there's nothing she can do about it. (Thanks for backing off. - Actually that statement is strictly for your benefit and mine, as she is anti-internet savvy.)

The topic comes up from my oldest nephew getting married. And...apparently a girl I knew okay at one point (different marriages). I think I wasn't able to devote enough time to her - not saying anything bad, but she knew what she wanted, and I wasn't going to have enough time for that. My nephew is marrying a girl of another faith - not bad, as most of the family on both sides are non-religious. I'm super happy for him and his fiancee - they're both cool and fun.

So, marriage? My friend is getting married a year from now. Wow. There was a point that I think I made a...choice, that shaped what I had with her. I think, for the better. She's been dating her boy almost 2 years at this point. Charging him rent, even, to live in her townhouse. A little odd, but it's two consenting adults.

Wish you all luck with you and yours.

March!

Chicago was cold, and friends were busy. I flew out specifically for the Tossers show - if I missed that show, I'd be entirely dumb (or getting laid by some deliriously hot chick...read the whole post to find out!)

Friday night I would have been better off seeing Catch 22, but that's okay. Instead, I went to Gene & Georgetti's...italian steakhouse with pasta. The calamari was good. The steak had no flavor. No espresso (sp) before dessert. Fortunately, my host, his fiancee, my neice, and I were in good spirits...my college friend was a welcome addition. (Someone I had a minor crush on in college, but she's cool in her own rights.)

Saturday day, my hosts were busy, so I went to the Field Museum and...scratch that...I went to the St. Patrick's Day parade. It was cold, and there were lots of beads thrown. After an hour and a half, I took off for warmer environs.

Saturday night, my host's fiancee cancelled, as did my friend from college. Mike and I went to the Tossers show - it was good. The non-music highlight was a couple of girls we started talking to upstairs. One was a friend (and the other the sister of) the original fiddle player who was playing with them that night. The non-music stupid thing was the lead trash-talking Flogging Molly about something. (I realize that you probably get compared to FM a lot. Complaining about it just means you're some kind of drama whore, or ... well ...worse.)

Sunday was chill - I flew back to Seattle, and hung out for Sunday drinking.

I leave for the Me First & the Gimme Gimmes soon - I have good expectations for a fun time.

February into March

Flogging Molly seemed like a short set. Their opening band didn't have CDs for sale.

Saw a band called The Kissers on Thursday - they only brought one of the CDs on the road with them - $15. They weren't bad, but I didn't stick around for the third set (if that's a standard).

I'm going to miss Mountain Con this Friday - I'll be in Chicago. (I finally saw a Tossers date more than 2 weeks in advance.)

Me First and The Gimme Gimmes are playing March 19th. I have like...5-6 CDs, and they're fun. Can't wait to see them live.
